JEANETTE WEILAND BEGAN PLAYING TENNIS AT THE AGE OF 36 AND HAS MORE THAN MADE UP FOR HER LATE START TO BECOME ONE OF THE TOP INDIVIDUAL, TEAM AND LEAGUE PLAYERS IN SINGLES AND DOUBLES IN THE STATE, SECTION AND NATION.

SHE HAS NUMEROUS ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS A PLAYER IN BOTH SINGLES AND DOUBLES:

 

 

 

 

  • PLAYED HER FIRST NATIONAL TOURNAMENT IN 1996 AND IMMEDIATELY ESTABLISHED HERSELF AS A PREMIER PLAYER IN HER AGE DIVISION, FINISHING AS A FINALIST IN THE NATIONAL GRASS COURT CHAMPIONSHIPS AT GERMANTOWN CRICKET CLUB.
  • DURING HER MOST ACCOMPLISHED YEAR SHE WON EVERY SINGLES, DOUBLES AND MIXED DOUBLES TOURNAMENT SHE ENTERED IN SOUTH CAROLINA, AND ALL BUT ONE IN THE SOUTHERN SECTION.
  • FINISHED THE 1996 YEAR WITH THE NUMBER ONE RANKING IN SINGLES, DOUBLES AND MIXED DOUBLES IN BOTH SOUTH CAROLINA AND SOUTHERN, AND WAS RANKED #2 IN THE NATION IN HER SINGLES AGE DIVISION.
  • RANKED IN THE TOP 10 IN THE NATION IN BOTH SINGLES AND DOUBLES FROM 1996 THROUGH 2007.
  • WON 21 GOLD, SILVER AND BRONZE BALLS AT NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS AFTER THE AGE OF 65.

HER INDIVIDUAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS QUALIFIED HER FOR TOP COMPETITION ON MANY STATE, SECTION AND NATIONAL TEAMS:

  • HAS BEEN A STANDOUT ON THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENIOR CUP TEAM, PLAYING ON 13 TEAMS SINCE 1981, INCLUDING THE 2013 TEAM.
  • HELPED SOUTH CAROLINA WIN NUMEROUS MILDRED SOUTHERN AND GIL STACY CUPS AT SENIOR CUP COMPETITION.
  • SET THE STANDARD FOR WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A TEAM PLAYER ACCORDING TO HER CAPTAIN AND FELLOW TEAM MEMBERS.
  • PLAYED ON 12 USTA SOUTHERN INTERSECTIONAL TEAMS, INCLUDING 6 AFTER THE AGE OF 75.
  • REPRESENTED THE USTA AS A MEMBER OF THE KITTY GODFREE CUP TEAM IN MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA WHERE THE UNITED STATES WAS SEEDED NUMBER ONE. SHE WON TWO OF THREE DOUBLES MATCHES BEFORE LOSING IN THE FINALS TO TWO FORMER WIMBLEDON PLAYERS.

JEANETTE HAS ALSO BEEN AN ADULT LEAGUE PLAYER:

  • CAPTAINED A STATE CHAMPION MIXED DOUBLES TEAM.
  • PLAYED ON A 4.5 TEAM THAT WON A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
  • REMAINS ACTIVE AT AGE 82 PLAYING AT THE 4.0 LEVEL AGAINST WOMEN OFTEN 40 YEARS HER JUNIOR.
