South Carolina Tennis Patrons Foundation

SCTPF Junior Player Grant

The South Carolina Tennis Patrons Foundation offers financial aid on a limited basis, primarily on need, for junior players. Grants of $150-$1,000 per player per year are awarded for tennis related expenses.

Recipients may be asked to provide accountability of how grant funds were spent. Compliance with accountability requests could affect eligibility for future grant consideration.

General Requirements

  • Player must be a full time resident of South Carolina, a United States citizen and a current USTA Member.
  • Player must be willing to play on state and sectional teams if asked.
  • Grant funds may be used for any tennis related expenses (equipment, lessons, entry fees, travel expenses, etc.).
  • Player’s annual family income should be less than $99,000; exceptions can be made when multiple players come from one family.
  • Applications must be received by November 1 each year. Late applications will be considered only if there are funds remaining in the player grant budget.
  • A player may only apply for one grant per calendar year.  However, If a player improves their ranking/standing during the year, they can qualify for the difference in funding from one grant to the other (i.e. if a player whose standing is 15th in the state receives a $300 competition grant, then they improve their standing to top 5 in the state and top 50 in the south, they may apply for the $700 difference between the Competition and High Performance grants).
  • If the family income is $50,000/year or less individual players will be considered for an additional $150 need grant per player.
  • 25% of the total grant budget each year should be set aside until July 1 of each year and used for grants for players of families with income less than $50,000/year.
  • A maximum of $1,200 will be provided in player grants to one family (brothers and sisters) during a calendar year.  If the family income is less than $50,000 the additional need grant (up to $300 total) may be added to this amount.
  • Applicant/parent/guardian must exhibit good sportsmanship on and off the court at all times.  The parent/guardian of a player with 4 or more suspension points (code of conduct) is not eligible for aid until such time as those points drop below 4.  Additionally, the parent/guardian is not eligible for aid if:
    a)  The player has been suspended during the previous or current calendar year.
    b)  The parent/guardian has been suspended in the previous or current calendar year.
    c)    Suspensions apply to the state, section and national levels.

  • Grant dollars are limited to the amount budgeted by SCTPF each calendar year and a minimum of $2,000 must be provided to players whose ranking/standing is not top 100 in the Southern Section.
  • Information submitted by applicants shall be considered confidential and shall be used only by the Player Grants Committee and only for the purpose of evaluating applications.  All aspects of the evaluation of the applications, including the Committee’s deliberations, shall be considered confidential.
