USTA Appreciation Events at the Family Circle Cup

The USTA had a busy day at the Family Circle Cup on Wednesday.  USTA members enjoyed the first of two USTA member appreciation events, and everyone was invited to a Special Olympics hit-around and a wheelchair tennis demonstration and movement clinic.
Hundreds of USTA members enjoyed a lunch, a gift, raffle prizes and a visit from a WTA player at the USTA member appreciation event in the south skybox overlooking Billy Jean King Stadium at the Family Circle Tennis Center.  Thursday will see another member appreciation event, giving those who missed Wednesday’s event a chance to enjoy the fun.
While the member appreciation event was going on, Jack Barker was MC-ing at a Special Olympics event on court 14 at the Family Circle Tennis Center.  Nearly two dozen Special Olympics players took to the court where they enjoyed a hit-around and drills.
When the Special Olympics event wound down, the wheelchair tennis players took to the courts.  Four wheelchair players participated in a run-roll demonstration, which pairs an able-bodied player with a wheelchair player and nearly a dozen total wheelchair players enjoyed a hit-around between the two demonstrations.  Wheelchair tennis has a strong presence in the Charleston area, and the crowd was very enthusiastic in showing their support and appreciation for the player’s skills.
