Tennis on Campus Fall Invitational

2012 Fall Invitational Champions: Duke University
For the second consecutive year the Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center on Hilton Head Island hosted the USTA Tennis on Campus Fall Invitational. Thirty two teams competed for bragging rights and two automatic bids to the 2013 National Tennis on Campus Championship. South Carolina fielded 4 teams with both Clemson and the College of Charleston entering A and B teams.
After pool play,  Clemson and the College of Charleston advanced to the sixteen team Gold Bracket with a chance to win the tournament. College of Charleston won their first round in the Gold Bracket before meeting Duke, the eventual champions, and losing by just one game, 25-24. Clemson met a similar fate with a second round loss by just one game to the Colorado School of Mines, 20-19. By peer team voting, the College of Charleston was awarded the sportsmanship award for the tournament.

Both teams are expected to play the USTA South Carolina Tennis on Campus Championship November 3-4 at the Charleston Tennis Center. This in state rivalry gets even hotter when you add in the University of South Carolina, which has the largest club program in South Carolina. USC is the defending state champion, but the College of Charleston owns four of the last seven state championships played.  Clemson looks to upgrade their perennial threat to be the state champion.
