Greenwood, Aiken to Host Junior Events

March 19, 2015 02:37 PM

Another season of team tennis for kids is set to begin in the Greenwood area. And this season, kids will have the opportunity to play organized matches against their peers and learn from a certified teaching professional.

Howard Green, a USPTA certified teaching pro, will host instructional clinics for kids of all skill levels on Friday evenings, starting April 17, at the Greenwood Civic Center. The following Saturday mornings, kids will play their team matches for the season of Junior Team Tennis, a U.S. Tennis Association program.

“I just enjoy being out there with the kids and showing them how to play,” said Green, who is also the president of the Greenwood Area Tennis Association, a USTA Community Tennis Association.

Kids ages 8 to 18 and of all skill levels are invited to take part in the spring season. “We don’t turn anybody away,” Green said.

He is especially hoping to get more high school students in JTT this season.

The association will host a free Tennis in the Park JTT Kickoff from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 28, at the Greenwood Civic Center, 1610 Highway 72/221 East. Lunch will be served following the tennis.
