HHI Tennis Pro Embraces Jr. Team Tennis

Wammock Coaching in Action

Eric Wammock has been involved with tennis for over 30 years. Four years ago Wammock began coaching with Jr. Team Tennis. Wammock played tennis as a junior, was a college All-American, went to the U.S. Open and now is the tennis pro at HHI Beach and Tennis Resort on Hilton Head Island, SC.

Wammock got involved with Jr. Team Tennis because he believes it gives high school players and players just getting started in tennis a great vehicle for entering into competition.

"It gives kids a great chance to be involved in team competition and it’s a really fun way to be a part of a team and a part of tennis," says Wammock about Jr. Team Tennis.

Jr. Team Tennis gives players of all levels a way to compete amongst players their own age and ability level. The program also offers high school players an opportunity for team play in the offseason.

This year at the Jr. Team Tennis State Championships Wammock has four teams qualify and brought three of those teams to the Championships. Among his three teams he has 22 players at the Championships. Wammock’s teams will continue play on Sunday in hopes of winning a State Championship and advancing to section championships in Auburn, AL.

As for the state championships this year, Wammock was highly impressed with the Florence Tennis Center.

"In all my years playing or coaching tennis, this tournament by far is my favorite," said Wammock.
