October 28, 2013 04:52 PM

Some of the best junior tennis players in the world will be in South Carolina next month.

The main draw of the USTA/ITF South Carolina International Junior Championships is scheduled for Nov. 11-17 at the Lexington County Tennis Complex, 425 Oak Drive.

The tournament will feature 64 girls and 64 boys from around the world, said Jorge Andrew, director of tennis operations for the Lexington County Recreation & Aging Commission, which runs the Lexington complex.

Last year, Andrews said, the tournament had juniors from more than 25 countries and more than 30 U.S. states.

Many of the juniors attend a tennis academy somewhere in the U.S., he said.

“Most of them," he said, “if they don’t play pro end up with a tennis scholarship to a Division I or a Division II school.”
