FLORENCE, S.C. – The Court Crashers, the Landsharks and three other USTA Jr. Team Tennis teams will have the opportunity to compete for regional team tennis championships next month after winning state titles Sunday.

The five teams won USTA South Carolina Jr. Team Tennis State Championships at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center.

By winning state, the teams now have the chance to play at the USTA Southern Jr. Team Tennis Championships, scheduled for August 15-17 at three sites in Lexington County, S.C.

Southern champions in the 14 and Under and 18 and Under levels also will have the opportunity to advance to the USTA Jr. Team Tennis National Championships, scheduled for October in Lexington County as well.

USTA Jr. Team Tennis features co-ed teams in four age levels. The teams, which represent various clubs, parks, recreational departments and organizations, advance to state by finishing at the top of their local leagues in the 10 and Under, 12 and Under, 14 and Under and 18 and Under levels.

In each age level, the teams are divided into skill levels. Teams win state championships by winning the most games.

The three-day USTA SC JTT championships was held exclusively at the Florence Tennis Center. More than 220 kids and 28 teams from all over South Carolina came to Florence for the event. Dozens of coaches, parents and relatives also attended the tournament and experienced the City of Florence.

“I’ve never seen this many cars here,” Robert Hill, Florence director of tennis, said Friday evening at the tennis center.

Rick Lawson helped coach a team from Boiling Springs this weekend. He and his wife appreciated USTA SC putting players first by giving them T-shirts and hats and also having water and Gatorade available for free.

“This is like the Cadillac of tournaments,” Lawson said.

Below are the team champions and finalists, along with their coaches’ names.
