This year’s tournament saw tremendous growth compared to last year. In 2012, the tournament hosted 116 teams and had around 950 players. This year, it hosted 161 teams with 1,479 players.

“I’m excited to get through the transition year in 2013,” said Bonnie Sue, league coordinator for the 55, 65 and 75 & Over divisions. “I’m looking forward to even greater success in 2014.”

There will be one big change at next year’s tournament. The 70 & Over division will be brought back into the mix, adding an extra division in the already popular 60, 65 and 75 & Over divisions. The state tournaments will be divided with the 70 and 75 & Over divisions competing the first weekend in May and the 60 and 65 & Over competing in the fall championships taking place on November 6-10, 2014.

Everyone at the tournament enjoyed the atmosphere even when difficulties arose. The staff at the tournament handled the complications in the best manner possible, allowing participants to focus on their matches.

“Charly Rasheed and his staff were very helpful,” said Bonnie Sue, “the ‘Red Army’ volunteers and the EMT staff also worked very hard and I want to thank all of them for making the tournament successful.”

The champions of the men’s and women’s 55 & Over and 65 & Over in the 3.0-9.0 level, qualified for the Section Championships, which will be held on December 6-8 in Columbus, Georgia.
