HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Thousands of people will go to the USTA South Carolina tournament this weekend to play tennis. But others will go just to watch.

On Saturday, Kerry Oates had come to every day of the USTA South Carolina Combo Doubles League Championships on Hilton Head Island.

He said he wanted to see some of his friends play in the tournament. He also lives only a five-minute walk from the Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center, which has two of the 12 tournament sites.

DSC_1083“Come out to see some very good tennis, some great tennis,” he said.

Oates also plays tennis and has played in USTA tournaments and leagues.

He and his wife moved to Hilton Head Island 16 years ago.

“Tennis is a great way to meet a lot of good people and have a lot of fun,” he said.

The championships, the largest USTA South Carolina tournament, finishes Monday.
