South Carolinians Captain U.S. Teams in World Games

South Carolina's Jolene Watanabe-Giltz of Bluffton and Brenda Carter of Charleston are captains of their respective U.S. teams in this week's ITF Senior World Championships in Perth, Australia. The country-vs.-country competition will be followed by the ITF individual Championships. In addition to the two captains, Renata Marcinkowska of Rock Hill and Diane Fishburne of Folly Beach are competing in the team and individual events. Watanabe-Giltz, ranked #12 in the world, leads the U.S. team in the Suzanne Lenglen Cup competition for women's 35 and older. The #11 in the world, Carter is captain for the Maureen Connolly Cup (women's 55 and older). 

Marcinkowska and Fishburne hold world #1 rankings for 2004 play. Marcinkowska, ranked in the 35s, is moving up to the women's 40 and older Young Cup. Fishburne is competing in the Margaret Court Cup for women's 45 and older. The world team and individual competition includes men's and women's 35s, 40s, 45s, 50s and 55s.
