COLUMBIA, SC – May 10, 2005 – Greenville County is excited about tennis after last weekends Tennis Month Parties, a statewide series of events designed to increase exposure to TENNIS.  The Pavilion and the Greer Tennis Center pulled out all the stops to put on great events for the community.

On Saturday, May 7th, Tim Driscoll and a great group of volunteers gave a lot of instruction, got the kids moving and gave away some terrific prizes.  Children at the event ranged in age from 3 to 16 and had varied skill levels.  After playing interactive games on court, the kids had a chance to answer trivia questions with the chance to win a new racquet.

The event concluded with a pizza lunch and an opportunity to learn more about the health benefits of tennis.  Ultimately, the goal of the event is to get children involved in the many summer camp opportunities in the community and keep them active during their vacation.

Mark Elliott hosted an event for adults on Sunday, May 8th at the Greer Tennis Center.  This terrific facility is home to the North Greenville Tennis Team who gave their time to help adults in the community.  Participants began with a warm up using dynamic stretching, improved their strokes with drills and had a lot fun on court.

One attendee said, “The best part of the event was the opportunity to meet neighbors and friends also interested in playing tennis.”  Many people set up group lessons with people they met at the event and hopefully will be forming USA League Tennis teams in the fall.
