Super Senior State Championships: A Celebration to Remember

November 8, 2005 06:14 PM

The South Carolina Super Senior State Championship was held at The Racquet Club of Seabrook Island and Kiawah Island East and West. The tournament, held from November 3rd through 6th, was the largest super senior championship in its 10 year history. 74 teams with over 660 players from 11 local leagues participated in the competition and festivities.

The 10th Anniversary of the league’s formation was highlighted by a presentation to Super Seniors League founders Don Grider of Hilton Head Island, Bud Spencer of Mt. Pleasant, and Mickey Bearden, former resident of Hilton Head Island, now residing in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. The Players Reception included 3 huge “Happy Anniversary Super Senior” cakes, which everyone enjoyed.

The Super Duper levels began play on Thursday, along with the 4.0 Women 60s level. The remainder of the levels began play on Friday with the semi-finals and finals concluding on Sunday.

Hilton Head, LCTA, UPTA and LATA had winning teams representing their local leagues which will now advance to the Southern Super Senior Sectional Championship being held in Pelham, Alabama next March 31st-April 2nd. We wish them the best of luck as these teams carry our flag to the next level.
