November 15, 2005 07:32 PM

Hayley Carter of Columbia SC won her third straight singles title at the "Little Mo" Nationals Oct. 21-24 in Austin TX, taking the Girls' 10s championship. She easily won her matches, losing a total of only five games.

Only one junior has won four consecutive titles, the maximum possible, at the "Little Mo" National Championships.  Hayley has a chance next year to become the second when she plays in the Girls' 11s.

The "Little Mo" is the only national tournament for boys and girls ages 11 and younger and is sponsored by the Maureen Connolly Brinker Foundation in honor of Maureen Connolly ("Little Mo"), one of the world's greatest tennis players.

Last year Hayley Carter was ranked #1 in South Carolina and the Southern Sectioni in Girls' 10s.  She won the singles and doubles titles, with her partner Alyssa Holbrooks, at the Wachovia Palmetto Championships and the first ever Southern Boys and Girls 10s Closed. This year she has played in the Girls' 12s, finishing second at Wachovia, winning Richland County Futures I, Topspin Annual Jr. Classic and Wildwood Junior Tournament.

Her coach, Bernie McGuire said: "She is very much a thinking player who applies the tactics we develop in our lessons to her matches in tournaments.  That alone gives her an edge against players who are afraid to change their game."  She is currently ranked # 4 in South Carolina.
