2006 USTA Adult Team Tennis Regional Championship

February 3, 2006 08:36 PM

The weekend of Jan. 28-29 brought six teams from the Hilton Head Island, Beaufort and Bluffton area to the inaugural USTA Adult Team Tennis Regional Championship on Hilton Head Island.  Matches were held at the Chaplin Park Public Tennis Center, Hilton Head High School and Middle School. Competing in a round-robin format, each team match consisted of mixed doubles eight-game pro sets at the 8.0, 7.0, 6.0 and 5.0 NTRP levels.

Teams became eligible for this championship from a regular season of play in a local program. The champion was determined by total games won after one complete round robin.  At the end of play on Saturday Terry Logan’s Beaufort 1 was ahead of the pack with 81 games and Bluffton in a close second with 77.  The remaining teams were very close with total games ranging from 63-68.

Two rounds of play took place on Sunday to complete the round robin.  While dodging the threat of rain, teams persevered through play and it came down to the final round scores to determine Bluffton 1 as the champion.
