All-American Tennis Shootout - May 3, 2006

April 21, 2006 02:03 PM
Andy Roddick 2003 US Open Champion Andy Roddick and the ATP World No. 1 doubles team Bob and Mike Bryan will headline the Lexus of Charleston All-American Tennis Shootout at the Family Circle Tennis Center at 7:00pm on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006.

“I’m excited to return to Charleston,” said US Davis Cup star Andy Roddick. “We all had a great time during our 2004 Davis Cup semifinal against Belarus. The community really supported our team, and we look forward to bringing world-class men’s tennis back to Charleston.”

Bryan Brothers “We’re proud to host another premier men’s event at the Family Circle Tennis Center, and hope to make this an annual event,” said Robin Reynolds, Facility and Tournament Director. “The last time Andy and the Bryans came to Charleston, they played to a sold-out crowd. I think this is a great addition to the Family Circle Cup, providing tennis fans the best in men’s and women’s tennis.”

In addition to Roddick and Bob and Mike Bryan, ATP Tour star Paul Goldstein will join the All-American line-up. Goldstein, winner of the NCAA Triple Crown at Stanford, is one of the most respected players on the ATP Tour. His career victories include wins over Greg Rusedski, Xavier Malisse, and Alex Corretja. In 2006, Paul has reached the singles semifinals in Las Vegas and the doubles semifinals in San Jose. Just four weeks ago, he extended former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt to three sets at Indian Wells.

Leading off the Lexus of Charleston All-American Tennis Shootout will be three tie-breakers featuring players representing Clemson, University of South Carolina, The Citadel, College of Charleston, and the Charleston Professional Tennis League (CPTL). Perhaps one of the most interesting matches of the evening will be the “Battle of the Brothers” featuring Andy and John Roddick vs. Bob and Mike Bryan. The evening will be capped off by a best-of-three singles match between Andy Roddick and Paul Goldstein!

“This will be a great night of world-class tennis and family entertainment,” says Tim Stallard, event producer and president of PROLINK Sports and Entertainment. “Andy came up with the idea to play on May 3rd just a couple of weeks ago. This will give the Americans a chance to prepare on clay before heading to Europe and the French Open. I know that all of the guys are excited to return to Charleston where they had as much fun off the court as they did in their victory over Belarus,” added Stallard.
