April 21, 2006 09:33 PM

Neha_v2While singles matches were the feature most of the time on the stadium court, fans were treated to some great doubles matches on the outer courts throughout the week. Talented young American stars like Jamea Jackson (Atlanta, GA), Cory Ann Avants (Gastonia, NC), Shenay Perry, Ashley Harkleroad (Wesley Chapel, FL), Mashona Washington, Neha Uberoi (pictured left) and Laura Granville (Chicago, IL) gave their veteran opponents a run for their money in some hotly contested early rounds.

FCC Family3John Sheffield, Graham Cox and Rebecca McPhee from USTA SC staff, Holly Goddard, USTA Southern staff, and a husband-wife volunteer team from the Low Country Tennis Association (LCTA) provided the manpower for the kids’ tennis games and Face Painting on Family Night.

Bob Peiffer, President of LCTA and Local League Coordinator for Charleston, rounded up dozens of willing volunteers to answer questions and give away prizes to USTA members at the USTA booth on the grounds of the tournament throughout the week.
