K-Swiss Kiawah Jr. Championships a Success

October 18, 2006 07:08 PM

The K-Swiss Junior Clay Court Championships were held October 13-16 at the Kiawa Island Resort. Players in age groups from 10s to 18s competed at the resort. The play was excellent with the doubles matches especially hard fought, having two of the finals go to three sets. On the boy's singles side, the matches were incredibly close. One match, between Anderson Scarpa and Thomas Spratt, had a game that lasted 42 minutes. The game was finally won on the 28th ad point.

USTA's Southern Section had a staff member on hand who was especially impressed by the quality of play. "The players were great," said Rebecca McFee. "This tournament is a terrific experience for players and their parents." USTA South Carolina had it's own representative on hand who was impressed by the tournament's professionalism. "This tournament is always so well organized," said Scottie Rabb. "It's always a pleasure to come here and see the kids play such wonderful tennis in gorgious weather."
