Super Seniors Shine at Southern Sectionals

April 9, 2007 03:07 PM

This past weekend in Columbus, Georgia the rains may have come but our South Carolina Super Senior stars shined bright. Over 100 teams participated in the fifteen divisions with their sights set on National Championship advancement.
South Carolina made a great showing with three Hilton Head Island teams and one Greenville team will be advancing to the National Super Senior Championships, held at the end of April. C.J. Wilcox (Hilton Head) captained his 3.0 team to a 4-0 sweep in their group and then a 3-0 win in the finals to progress to Daytona Beach, Florida; Scott Bernsten’s (Hilton Head) 3.5 team swept their group 4-0 and won in the finals 2-1; Janet Palmer’s (Hilton Head) 3.5 team tied in their group advancing to the finals by 2 less sets lost and then winning by 3-0 in the championship match. Tom Foster’s (Greenville) 4.5 team won their round robin play 3-1. All three of these teams advance to Charleston (Daniel Island) for their bid at the National titles.
We had MORE Champions and want to congratulate these captains and their teams: Walter Jacobs (Greenville) Super Duper 3.0 Champions winning their championship match 3-0; Warren Kimball (Charleston) Super Duper 3.5 Champions won their championship match 2-1. Dick Wardman (Myrtle Beach) Super Duper 4.0 and Allan Zak (Hilton Head) Super Senior 60s 4.0 were finalist. There is no national championship for the Super Duper levels, but as you can see South Carolina dominated the Southern Sectional Championships.
