South Carolina Players Place Well in ROHO Tournament

Hilton Head Island, SC - - Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) hosted its annual PTR/ROHO $17,500 Wheelchair Tennis Championships last weekend at Van der Meer Shipyard Racquet Club on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. This year saw the largest number of participants ever with 130 players from 15 countries.

USTA Southern players took home quite a few titles. David Williams, from Sugar Hill, Georgia won the Men¹s A Singles title. Williams joined Donald Shapiro of Augusta for the Men¹s A Doubles, which the duo won by defeating fellow Georgian, Harlon Matthews of McDonough and Floridian John Johnston.

Matthews did win the Men¹s A Singles Consolation. Jeremy Kemp of Antioch, Tennessee, captured the Men¹s B Singles Consolation. Rory Archer, of Rock Hill, South Carolina won Men¹s C Doubles.

On the women¹s side, Kelly Espinoza of Nashville, Tennessee won B Singles and made it to the final round of A Singles.

James Ezell, of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, won Quad A Singles and Doubles with partner Bruce Fairbanks of Dalton, Georgia.

Harlon Matthews was on the winning Open/A Doubles Masters team. Georgians Mark LaRontonda, of Alpharetta, and Harold Young, of McDonough, captured the Masters B/C Doubles.
