Wachovia Palmetto Championships Conclude

June 11, 2008 02:28 PM

The 2008 Wachovia Palmetto Championships (USTA SC’s Junior Qualifier) ended on a high note June 9 with championship singles matches and an awards ceremony at the Belton Tennis Center.  This concluded seven days of tennis play on more than 65 courts throughout Belton and Anderson.  Over 400 players participated in this year's tournament.  Singles and doubles championships were decided for both boys and girls in five age divisions (10s, 12s, 14s, 16s & 18s).  Championships were also decided in six Belton Classic singles divisions, which included players who did not make the main draw of 32.  The tournament ran on schedule throughout the week, with no rain delays although with the scorching weather some players may have wished for rain.
The weather wasn’t hot enough to slow down some great play.  Several players, including Hayley Carter, continued dominating their divisions, while some new faces, such as Molly O'Koniewski, made an appearance.  The competition was fierce and the audience, including several news crews and a few college scouts, took notice.  As usual the tournament was great fun and smoothly run.  Congratulations to all the champions, we look forward to seeing more strong play from you.
