Willington Welcomes New Tennis Programs

June 24, 2008 04:45 PM

The hot weather couldn’t cool the enthusiasm of nearly three dozen young tennis enthusiasts in Willington. The Mims Community Center hosted a kick-off program for their after school/summer tennis program. Dozens of children attended the event which included prizes, games, lemonade, cookies and, of course, tennis. Eleanor Gilchrist, Director of the Mims Community Center, and Andre Duhaime, a local volunteer, organized the program which is designed to give children a structured after school environment while helping them learn the benefits of health and wellness through tennis. The program received help from the South Carolina Tennis Patron’s Foundation and the USTA Southern Section through grants which were for $1200 and $1000 respectively. The program should be a great success and we’ll be looking for great players to start coming from Willington soon.
