Rock Hill Player Selected for International Competition by USTA

The United States Tennis Association selected Renata Marcinkowska of Rock Hill, South Carolina to join the 2008 United States Women’s Young Cup team for women 40 and over. Marcinkowska will compete for this year’s Young Cup in the World Team Championships to be held in Antalya, Turkey, October 12-18, 2008. This year’s competition will be played on European red clay courts. The US got 5th place in competition in 2007 in Antalya. The US will attempt to win the Cup when it competes in Turkey again this year against 15 of the world’s top women’s tennis teams. This prestigious Cup is for international tennis team competition for women ages 40 and older. It is sponsored annually by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). Marcinkowska is one of a four women team selected by the USTA from the very best players in her age division. Her teammates include Mary Dailey from Delray Beach, Florida, Robin Keener from Melbourne, Florida and Anna Zimmerman from Indianapolis, Indiana.

Renata Marcinkowska will be playing on the Young Cup team for the second time, although this is her fourth time playing on a cup team for the US. She was ranked #1 in the world in singles for women’s 35s in 2004 and 2005. Currently she is #1 in the nation in women’s 40s singles. Marcinkowska graduated from Oklahoma State University and is currently an independent tennis consultant.
