The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has selected Andrew “Andy” Lake of Six Mile, South Carolina to be a member of the U.S. Italia Cup Team for men 35 years of age and over. Lake will compete with his team in this year's International Team Competition, October 12-18, in Antalya, Turkey.
The Italia Cup Competition has been held continuously since 1982. In those 26 years, the United States has won the Cup 4 times and has been runner-up on 9 occasions. Lake is one of 4 men selected by the USTA from the very best American players in his age division. His teammates include James Slonac, Wauwatosa, WI., Willie Dann, Denver, CO., and Chris Carey, Kansas City, MO. This event is sponsored annually by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and all member nations are eligible to field  teams.
Andy has the distinction of being the Nation's best clay court player in the Men's 35 Division as he won the National Tournament last November. He, also, has been elected as Team Captain. His selection to the team this year marks the first time to represent the United States in International Competition.
