USTA SC Premiers Its First Wheelchair Clinic

September 12, 2008 12:54 PM

The first USTA South Carolina wheelchair clinic was held this past Saturday with Domino Boulware and Bob Masella providing instruction. Given weather concerns the event was moved indoors where USC women’s coach Arloe Elkins provided the Sam Daniel Tennis Center. In addition to the courts Arloe and his Lady Gamecocks team participated throughout the clinic giving instruction and providing enthusiasm and energy. Six participants came out and played. Everyone began by practicing basic movement and turning skills. Domino along with the Lady Gamecocks and two volunteer assistants from Greenview Park led a variety of ball striking drills for players to get plenty of practice with movement, hitting and recovery for the next ball. By the end of the session the competitive juices were flowing and most participants began playing out some points for fun. Discussion of plans and potential scholarships for players the ROHO/PTR Championships ended our session with a lot of enthusiasm for ongoing play to be developed by Domino at Greenview Park.

Another clinic is scheduled for October 11 at St. Andrew’s Park and Playground in Charleston.
