Senior League State Championships Wrap Up in Hilton Head

May 14, 2009 01:46 PM

The USTA Senior League State Championships wrapped up in Hilton Head on Monday, May 11.  The event featured teams from around the state and, excluding some showers on Monday, the weather was as great as the tennis.  As usual, Hilton Head area teams did very well with four championship teams and four finalists coming from TAHHI or CCTA.  All of the teams enjoyed a fantastic player reception on Friday night with magnificent food and drink available.  However, once Saturday rolled around the teams were all business.  The competition was tight, and the infamous third-set 10 point tiebreakers featured in many matches.  Teams continued to slug it out on Sunday, and the field slowly sorted itself out.  By Monday only the cream of the crop remained and they took to the courts determined to bring home the title.  Unfortunately Mother Nature had a little surprise in store and on Monday afternoon the thunder and rain rolled in.  The championships were shortened a bit by the rain, but otherwise many players said it was a perfect tournament.   To visit the official site of the championships and see pictures of the championship and finalist teams, click here
