September 28, 2009 01:41 PM

Team South Carolina got off to a great start at the Southern Cup Championships in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The doubles play got underway at 8am here on Friday morning, with the Palmetto State players facing off against the hosting Tennessee team. South Carolina grabbed 7 of the nine doubles matches and went on, later in the afternoon, to take 13 0f the 18 singles matches to defeat the Volunteer State 20-7.
In the second slate of morning matches the South Carolina team stormed out to a 7-2 lead over Arkansas after the completion of the doubles matches. They would go on to take 15 of the 18 singles matches to defeat the “Hogs” 22-5. This puts the SC team into the Gold playoff division with a shot to win the Southern Cup. The task will be tough, as one of the teams that they will have to play is the 14 time defending champions from Georgia.
Both coaches, Gary Agardy and Mark Smith, were very pleased with the overall performance of the team on Friday. The team will play Saturday morning in their “Quest for the Cup.”
