Combo Doubles League State Championship Wrap-Up

October 30, 2009 03:00 PM

At this year’s Combo Doubles State Championships, players from across South Carolina gathered to face off for the crown in 21 different divisions.  Players looked anxiously to the skies as memories of last year’s deluge that played havoc with the schedule came to their minds as clouds gathered.  Fortunately play was virtually uninterrupted and players were able to stay on plan all weekend.

Columbia and Lexington teams did well, with UPTA making a strong showing too.  The divisions were all very competitive with a few coming down to total games won.  The league volunteers were hard at work and Steve Zalenski, USTA Southern Tennis Service Representative, and Laura Barth, USTA SC Manager of Volunteer Programming, set up a booth to help recruit more volunteers to keep leagues growing successfully.

Just one more League State Championship remains.  The Super Seniors will gather on the Isle of Palms to face off for their championships November 5-8.
