November 30, 2009 09:15 PM

More than 30 Spartanburg-area children took to the tennis courts Saturday morning to participate in a Jr. Team Tennis Fun Day at USC Upstate.  The event was hosted by the United States Tennis Association of South Carolina in their hopes to generate interest for the Spartanburg Jr. Team Tennis Program.
Players participated on 36 foot courts for 8 and under, 60 foot courts for 10 and under, and full-size courts for 11 and older.  Games, drills, and informal matches were run by local volunteers, members of the USC Upstate tennis team, and USTA SC staff.
USTA Jr. Team Tennis is a multi-week program of team practice and match play for boys and girls, ages 6 to 18.  Teams are comprised of players of similar age and skill.  They compete against other teams from the same geographic region in one of five league divisions: 8 & under, 10 & under, 12 & under, 14 & under or 18 & under.
