2014 Officials Clinic Schedule

2014 Officials Clinics

If you are interested in becoming a USTA official or need to recertify in 2014, please register for one of our upcoming officials clinics.

If you have never been an official and would like to participate in one of the courses to learn more and become a certified official, please follow these specific instructions:

To become an official you must:

  • Hold a current USTA Membership
  • Have eyesight correctable to 20/20
  • Send an e-mail with your name, phone number, and city to, and a reply e-mail will be sent to you with the following information:
    • Instructions on how to complete the USTA Background Check
    • Instructions and a link to download & complete the USTA Provisional Officials Exam online
  • Pass the USTA Provisional Official’s Exam, which is an open book test using the 2014 Friend at Court 
  • After the passing the Provisional Exam, you will be e-mailed with the procedure to complete the following:
    • Complete 5 days of on court training with a mentor official assigned by USTA SC and be recommended for provisional official status
    • Attend an annual clinic on rules & procedures (see below for dates)
  • Instructions on opening an NUCULA account when approved on-court training is completed

If you ARE CURRENTLY a certified official seeking recertification, you need to read the below information thoroughly and go to NUCULA to sign up for the clinic. Here are the steps to attend the clinic:

  1. Register through NUCULA for the clinic.  Here are those steps:

    1. Sign into NUCULA

    2. Go to “Item Lists”à“Events” and all events will show up.  Scroll down until you see the clinic you would like to attend.  You may also go into State Filter Window on the left, select South Carolina, and hit search to view only SC schools.

    3. Click on event you want to attend, then choose “Main Event Page”.  On this page, you will see an “Event Note” you need to read.

    4. Under “My Availability”, select “Manage My Availability” (denoted in blue) and select “Available”, and under Assignment Comments, list the sessions (USTA, Referee, and/or ITA) you will be attending, then hit “Submit”.

  2. Take the appropriate test, linked below, using the 2014 FAC.  Be sure to submit your test answers online!

  3. If you pass the test, print out your Test Verification Document to bring with you to the clinic.

  4. If you do not pass the test,  you are allowed to take it again by contacting Julio Echavarria at the Officials Department at

  5. You MUST PASS THE APPROPRIATE CLASS to attend the corresponding clinic.

If you arrive to attend school and do not have your test results verification, you will not be allowed to stay for the school.

Lunch will not be provided.  Please bring your own lunch or make arrangements to go out for lunch.  Remember to bring your test scores and a certificate of completing the Safe Play online tutorial.

ITA Clinic: 8:30 a.m.
USTA Clinic: 11:00 a.m.
Referee Clinic: 3 p.m.

Please bring a bag lunch as we will not take a lunch break.  Please bring test scores and certificate of completing Safe Play Video.
