New Officials
New [Provisional] Officials: those wanting to become an umpire for the first time should scroll down this page and click on the USTA Officials Page. There you will find the Provisional Exam. Download and print; take it and mail to Kurt Wassén, including your name, address, phone and e-mail, to 1 Bishop Gadsden Way, Apt.110, Charleston, SC 29412.
Then apply, using link on right side of the USTA Officials Page, for addition to the NUCULA database and also apply for a Background Check by going to www.usta.com/backgroundcheck. *** Then your next step is to (1) sign-up for the July 30 clinic mentioned above; (2) take the USTA Exam online [see instructions above] before the clinic and bring your test Score to the clinic [this is your admission ticket].
South Carolina Mentoring Program for New Officials
USTA South Carolina is pleased to provide mentoring program for New (Provisional) Roving Officials. On court experience under the direction of a seasoned official, who has been approved as a Mentor, will serve as a resource and will facilitate a base of experience using hands-on training. This is an ongoing program for the recruitment and training of new officials, which offers an opportunity for tennis enthusiasts to become involved in a variety of officiating roles.
