The tennis season is winding down as we prepare for the holidays of being thankful for all of our tennis blessings that the tennis gods have bestowed upon us. Let us begin by saluting the Girls High School Champions.  Talk about girl power; these young ladies are awesome and oh yes they play a mean game of tennis.  Class 4A champions Wando Warriors won their fourth consecutive state championships, plus they had a 62 match win streak. The class 3A champions were the Hilton Head Seahawks and who could forget about Bishop England their state championship.  Kudos to the Cardinal Newman Girls for their winning the “SCISA” championships.

The South Carolina Tennis Patrons Foundation has awarded its annual junior scholarships to Elizabeth Appleby who will attend Clemson and Luke Whiteside who is a freshman at Wofford. Ashley Mitchell of Mount Pleasant a freshman at Dartmouth is the recipient of the Heffron Sportsmanship Scholarship. The Wildwood Crush defeated USTA Midwest (Milwaukee Wis.) to capture the USTA Junior Team Tennis 18&Under Intermediate National Championships which was held October 26-29 at the Hilton El Conquistador Resort in Tucson Arizona.  Coach Gary Kocher way to go and tip our hats to you and your team.  The fourth ITF South Carolina tournament was held on October 31- November 4 at the Lexington County Tennis Complex. This tournament brings an international flavor to tennis in the Midlands. Player will come from tennis academies throughout the world. The winners and finalist from Belton are granted wild cards into the qualifying rounds.

There were eight midlands team that brought home state championships  including two senior women’s group from the Columbia Tennis League.  The Lexington Area Tennis Association won eight divisions at the event in Charleston.
