2004 marks Laura Sawyer’s first year as secretary for USTA South Carolina. She is also currently serving on the Marketing and Public Relations Committee and is an avid 3.5 player.

Her life’s work thrives on sports. In 1993, she received her BS from the University of South Carolina in Sport Administration. She earned her MS in Sport Management two years later from Georgia Southern University, and she received her Ed.D. in Physical Education – Sport Management from the University of Northern Colorado in 1997.

Sawyer served as the executive director of the Carolina Marathon Association, in 1998, which brought the 2000 US Olympic Team Women’s Marathon trials to Columbia. She has also been the director of the emergency action team at the Denver Broncos’ stadium. She taught sport management at James Madison University, and she was also a visiting professor at the Sport Institute in Groningen, Holland.

For now, Sawyer considers her three Siberian Huskies, Nikki, Duncan and Kodi her children.
