From his college years to adulthood, tennis has run through Neal Peterson’s blood. He played USTA Team Tennis for 15 years.  This is his third term as East Area Director for USTA South Carolina, and his second year as a member of the Communications and Marketing Committee.

Peterson played varsity tennis for both N.C. State University and Chowan College and was named MVP at Chowan in 1971, where he also received his associate of arts degree. He graduated from East Carolina University with a B.S. in Physical Education.  Neal was also the Head Tennis Coach at East Carolina in 1976.

He received his Masters in Physical Education at East Carolina while serving as assistant coach for the varsity tennis team. He was also the head tennis pro for the city of Greenville, NC during the summer.

In 1995, Peterson began writing for the Myrtle Beach Sun News as a sports writer. In 1999, he received the Media Award from USTA SC and USTA Southern.

Peterson has since become a certified umpire, referee and ITA official. In 2002, he was honored with the Service Award from the Grand Strand Tennis Association, and in 1999 he recieved the USTA SC Media Award.
