2011 Kimberly Hampton Most Improved Junior Boy & Girl Award

Junior players who make the most improvement in their game with consideration given to their improvement in state, section, and national (if applicable) rankings

KYLE BARR

Barr has given the blood, sweat, and tears to improve his game and his ranking in both South Carolina and the Southern Section reflect his dedication.  In 2009, Barr had respectable rankings of #6 in South Carolina and #43 in the Southern Section.  However, in 2011 his hard work has raised him to #1 in South Carolina and #9 in the Southern Section in the Boys 14s division.  Barr won his doubles division at the Wachovia Palmetto Championships and lost a close match in the singles final.  In addition he has represented South Carolina on both the regional and national stages, winning numerous matches at the National Clay Court Championships and the Southern Spring Closed and qualifying for the Easter Bowl.  

SHANNON O'BRIEN

O’Brien is an individual whose hard work can serve as an example to other junior tennis players.  From 2010 to 2011 her ranking improved from #26 to #7 in South Carolina and she moved up almost 150 spots in the Southern rankings.  Her advancement is due to her great play.  O’Brien won the SC State Clay Court Championships, defeated the #5 and #3 seeds at the Wachovia Palmetto Championships, made the finals of the Georgia Open doubles division, and made it through three rounds of the Southern Closed Championships.
