COLUMBIA, S.C. – Almost 900 tennis players from across the state will come to Greenville this weekend for USTA South Carolina league state championships. The players will compete for pride and chances to advance to regional USTA competitions. They’ll also provide a boost for the Greenville economy for the second consecutive year.

“We’re excited about coming back to Greenville,” said Mary Goins, USTA South Carolina state league coordinator.

The 18 & Over 2.5-3.5 League State Championships will start Saturday at four Greenville facilities. The same championships also were held in Greenville last year.

The Greenville Country Club is the official host site of the championships. Furman University, Thornblade and the Kroc Center also will host matches.

The three-day event will feature 60 teams from all over the state, including from Myrtle Beach, Charleston and Columbia. The winning teams can advance to the USTA League 18 & Over Southern Sectional Championships in July.
