This marked the first year that teams have competed with a 40 & over age division, which was put in place to give players more opportunities to participate. Nearly 100 teams competed in the tournament as a result.

The leagues were established to provide adult recreational tennis players with the opportunity to compete against players of similar ability levels. Players participate on teams in a league format, which is administered by USTA South Carolina. USTA League is open to any USTA member 18 years of age or older.

USTA Leagues are the largest recreational tennis program in the world.  Players compete on teams divided by age and skill level, with new age divisions for players aged 40 and over and players aged 55 and over debuting in 2013.
