Myrtle Beach Captain Stands Out

There are USTA adult tennis league captains, and then there are captains, such as Andie Stanford of the Myrtle Beach area. Stanford has captained at least 27 teams from 2003 to earlier this year. As part of Captain Appreciation Week, USTA South Carolina is taking time all this week to recognize those outstanding individuals who give countless hours for their teammates and for tennis.

We asked Pat Gaynor of the Prestwick Tennis Center what makes Andie such a great captain. Pat happily obliged.

"I’ve played on many of Andie’s teams in the past and she has always put together strong competitive teams. Many of the girls have been successfully together for years, the only time someone leaves (one of) her teams is when they get rated up to 4.5!  Keeping a team together is an accomplishment. As we have aged, the Age Level Teams we compete on has aged with us.

"Andie always schedules practice times for everyone and encourages the women to take clinics with Will Bull, our head pro. State (championships) seem to be routine for her teams. We had a team qualify and compete in Sectionals in Baton Rouge a few years ago. She is organized and has a good sense for combining players and setting up strengths.

"But friendship is what her teammates value the most."

Do you know a captain worthy of being honored? Let us know! And go here for more information about this glorious week that we call Captain Appreciation Week.
