SC Couple Thankful for Great Team, Better Friends

September 5, 2014 03:24 PM

Jay Prince and his wife, Rhonda, have been playing tennis for the past seven years at the Westside Club in Spartanburg. Next weekend, they’ll take their talents to Florence and try to win a state league championship at the USTA South Carolina Adult Mixed Doubles State League Championships, Sept. 12-15.

Friday, Jay and Rhonda took time to answer questions about playing USTA league tennis, being a captain and going to state.

What other USTA leagues do you play in?

We both captain teams every season; spring, mixed and combo and we are both tennis addicts.

How many times have you been to state?

We've been to state a total of 20 times between the two of us.

What are you specifically looking forward to next weekend?

We are very much looking forward to the mixed state championship in Florence this coming weekend as we are very blessed by God to have such a great team of players, who most importantly are our good friends as well! Rhonda's favorite league is mixed because she enjoys improving her game by playing the guy's fast, hard and powerful shots.

What makes your league team unique?

Our 8.0 mixed team is unique in that we have some of the best 4.0 ladies in Spartanburg, and they have succeeded in helping our team win our division, against a couple of perennial favorites who thought they'd never be unthroned!  The Hot Shots & Sweet Spots 8.0 Spartanburg team consists of:  Jay & Rhonda Prince, Tina Andress, Pat Culbreth, Amy Eskew, Mike Braswell, Aric Axness, Dottie Kinlaw, and Will Welborn.
