Sun City Hilton Head hosts Tennis Boot Camp

Sun City Hilton Head in Bluffton, SC conducted its first Tennis Boot Camp, August 8 – August 29, for level 2.0 – 2.5 tennis players (age 55 and older).
A ‘Tennis Outreach Committee’ was formed to address the needs and desires of the residents of Sun City HH, members of the tennis association, and the local community.  Tennis Outreach Committee Chairperson, Ruby Murray, notes the committee has identified several programs and projects they plan to introduce this year. Their first project would be to address the needs of the level 2.0 – 2.5 tennis players; therefore, the ‘Tennis Boot Camp’ was born.
A whooping 36 players registered for Tennis Boot Camp.  On July 31, participants attended a kick-off breakfast meeting to meet and receive instructions.  In addition to good food, participants had fun playing ‘tennis trivia’ and were awarded give-a-way prizes.  Cindy Vander Berg, Tennis Teaching Professional, created the lessons; and, was led instructor for all boot camp sessions. The sessions were scheduled, one night a week, for four weeks.
Participants were divided into four groups, utilizing four tennis courts; with a different lesson conducted, simultaneously, on each court.  With the assistance of other teaching pros and committee members, each group rotated every 30 – 45 minutes to a different court, to participate in each lesson.  Due to popular demand, a second Tennis Boot Camp has been scheduled for September 25 – October 16.
