HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – (OCTOBER 20, 2015) – The clay courts at Palmetto Dunes continued to treat neighboring teams and others well at the 2015 USTA South Carolina Combo Doubles League State Championships, which finished here Monday afternoon.

Three teams from Hilton Head Island won league state championships, and another three finished as finalists at the combo championships, which were played at 12 area facilities, including Palmetto Dunes, the official host site.

A total of 25 other teams also won league state championships, including teams from Greenville, Charleston, Florence, Myrtle Beach, Spartanburg and the Midlands. The winning teams in the 18 and over, 40 and over and 55 and over age groups can now represent USTA South Carolina at the USTA Combo Doubles Southern Sectional Championships, which will be held in March 2016 in Alabama. Three other teams received wild-card invites and also will have the chance to play in Alabama.

The 2015 USTA South Carolina Combo Doubles League State Championships drew nearly 2,700 tennis players to Beaufort County for quality tennis and great times with friends. For complete state league championships results, click here.

The teams, which represent various clubs, parks, recreational departments and organizations, made it to Beaufort County because they finished at the top of their local leagues.

Established in 1980, the USTA League program has grown from 13,000 participants competing regionally to more than 865,000 participants playing across the country, making it the world’s largest recreational tennis league.

USTA League was established to provide adult recreational tennis players throughout the country with the opportunity to compete against players of similar ability levels. Players participate on teams in a league format, which is administered by the USTA. The league groups players by using six National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) levels, ranging from 2.5 (entry) to 5.0 (advanced). (The combo doubles format combines the ratings of the two players competing in doubles together.)

USTA League is open to any USTA member 18 years of age or older.
