Hayley Carter to play in the U.S. Open Junior Event

Former USTA SC Competition Training Center (CTC) participant and Columbia native Hayley Carter, 16, was awarded a wild card berth for the U.S. Open Junior tournament.
It comes on the heels of Carter reaching the quarterfinals of the USTA Girls Junior Nationals in San Diego, California. An unseeded player at the tournament, Carter beat four players ranked in the top 35 of the USTA rankings, including No. 2 Gabrielle Andrews, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, earning her ‘Player of the Day’ honors.
Carter trains at Smith Stearns Tennis Academy in Hilton Head. In June, she won singles and doubles titles at the Wachovia Palmetto Championships in Belton.  Later this summer, she reached the semifinals at the USTA Pro Circuit tournament in Sumter, beating a former No. 1-ranked junior and a former University of Florida player.

Hayley attributes much of her early success to the USTA SC CTC program. "I would have to say that the program was very beneficial for me. It was great to be able to hit with the best players in South Carolina with instruction from the best coaches in the state. The sessions were always a lot of fun and I always learned a lot."
The draws for the U.S. Open Junior tournament have not been made at this time. Carter will begin her quest for the title sometime early next week.
