Mixed Doubles League Championships Conclude

The 2010 USTA Mixed Doubles State League Championships wrapped up in Charleston on September 13.  Adult and senior teams from across the state gathered to play for the title of best in the state at their division.  Play started on Friday, and the weather was great for most of the weekend, with only a slight rain delay Saturday evening and Sunday morning.  By Monday only the top teams remained and they enjoyed fantastic weather as they faced off in the semi-finals and finals.   Several divisions came down to the last court, including a tense match between two Columbia teams in the 7.0 Adult division, where the championship was decided by a 10-point tiebreak for the third set.

Overall midlands teams did extremely well with Columbia and Lexington teams placing as either champions or finalists in eight of the ten divisions, including the 7.0 Adults where Columbia teams where both champion and finalist.  The newly reformed Spartanburg Area Tennis League got off to a strong start taking one championship and coming in second in another.  The Lowcountry Tennis Association, perhaps inspired by Charleston recently taking the crown as "Best Tennis Town" won two championships and placed second in another division.
