April Gift to Join USTA South Carolina Team

USTA South Carolina has named April Gift Manager of Program Development. April will join USTA SC on November 4, 2019.

Gift has a simple goal in mind for tennis players - to make it fun at a young age which will develop a player for a lifetime.  In 2003 she worked with a local tennis club in Central PA to create a youth league utilizing local community courts.  Over 100 youth with little to no experience came out to play. The program was so well received that she expanded it to include multiple sites and began an official USTA Junior Team Tennis League, the first in Central PA. It is now the largest league in the Central PA District spanning 10 counties with teams in all age divisions and levels of play.

In 2013, Gift moved to South Carolina and started the Lowcountry Junior Team Tennis League. She has taken the program from 0 to over 240 players playing a season, and three seasons a JTT calendar year. Gift helped to organize a “Net Generation Court” for the Volvo Car Open for the past 2 years and took 24 Lowcountry Players to the US Open for an On-Court Experience.

Gift was instrumental in implementing Net Generation into her programs in Charleston and Columbia, South Carolina, Central PA, and even Calistoga, CA, where her son Alex and Grandson, Finley now live.

“It’s all about getting players excited about the game early on and having fun,” said Gift.  “Game On!”
