Familiar USTA SC faces at Adult Mixed Doubles League State Championships

September 30, 2017 06:00 PM

If you venture to Florence, South Carolina this weekend, you’re sure to recognize some familiar faces playing in the USTA SC Adult Mixed Doubles League State Championships. One of these in particular is Board President, Bob Peiffer.

Bob and his wife Susie are playing on two Lowcountry Tennis Association teams in the championships, the Geezers and Gals (a 65 & Over team) and the Oldies but Goodies (a 55 & Over team).

The Geezers and Gals have been playing together for two years, although a number of players were together a few years ago when they won the State Championships in the 55 & Over division. They play their home league matches at the Maybank Racquet Club in Charleston, SC.

Although there were no state championships for the 65 & Over 8.0 division last year, Bob’s team joined two others in the state to play a “local league” double round robin in one weekend.

For Bob, the best part about USTA league tennis is the combination of competition and the social aspects of team tennis.

“We all want to win this weekend,” said Bob, “but we also want to have a good time if we don’t.”

If you’re interested in watching the action in Florence, The Dr. Eddie Floyd Tennis Center is the official host site of the championships. Florence Country Club, Timrod Park Tennis Courts and Francis Marion University also will host matches.
