Grand Re-opening of the Columbia Tennis Center

The Columbia Tennis Center had its much anticipated grand re-opening on Friday, June 1st. The Superintendent of Parks and City Council Member Dr. Belinda Gergle officiated over the opening.

Youth from the City of Columbia summer camps enjoyed the re-opening and received a tennis session offered by the Director of Tennis, Jeff Kefalos and staff member Bill Mason with assistance from Greenview Park staff Domino Boulware and USTA South Carolina staff. To celebrate the re-opening, the city provided a free weekend of play where the court fees were waived.

The center was built in 1977, and this re-opening was its first major renovation. The center's main goal was the rebuilding of the original 14 courts. Out of these 14 new courts, 5 are now synthetic clay and 9 are hard courts. As a special addition 5 of the hard courts are lined for 10 and Under Tennis.

Other improvements include updating past lighting systems and increasing the availability of parking.
