Great Weekend for Southern Junior Cup

The Southern Junior Cup took place September 13th – 15th, at Champions Club inChattanooga, TN.
In the 12's division, seven of the final nine matches, which determined the winners of each event ended up either 9-8 or 9-7.
Two of the round robin groups finished with each team ending with a 1-1 record and therefore tiebreaks went to individual matches won in one division and sets lost in another. The winning team of the Gold Division was coached by Taylor Hutchens from NC. His team consisted of Ruth Marsh (GA), Jenna Thompson (NC), Reagan Welch (TN), Jerry Wang (NC, Foster Rogers (AR), and Mac Morehead SC). The winners of the Sportsmanship Awards were Margaret White (AL) for the girls and Wes Barnett (AR)for the boys.

In the 14-18's divisions, the team posted a 25-2 record over Kentucky and a 23-4 record over Arkansas in round robin play to advance to the Gold Bracket. They continued their high level of play in the next couple days, defeating North Carolina 16-11 and came close to knocking off all-time SJC Champion Georgia, but fell 15-12 to clinch second place in the Gold bracket.


Oliver Crawford and Jared Pratt anchored the 14’s, neither player dropping a match to go 16-0 on the weekend.  Paul Hendrix, Makenna Jones, Jade Lewis, and Olivia Lucas all posted 7-1 records.  Rachel McNeely and Alec Miller went 6-2, and Spencer Brown, Scotty Cameron, Laura Dean, and Lauren Joch came away with 5-3 records.

Coached by Mark Smith and Carlos Lozano, the Team_SCteam consisted of Laura Dean (G18-Georgetown), Cameron Kriscunas (G16-Hilton Head), Rachel McNeely (G18-Westminster), Olivia Lucas (G18-Spartanburg), Makenna Jones (G16-Greenville), Jade Lewis (G16-Hilton Head), Lauren Joch (G14-Irmo), Catie Meighan (G14-Bluffton), Ann Martin Skelly (G14-Charleston), Paul Hendrix (B14-Murrels Inlet), Oliver Crawford (B14-Spartanburg), Jared Pratt (B14-Daniel Island), Spencer Brown (B16-Spartanburg), Alec Miller (B18-Rock Hill), Alexander Santiago (B18-Isle of Palms), Wood Benton (B18-Spartanburg), Logan Adkins (B16-Lexington) and Scotty Cameron (B16-Isle of Palms).
