Lauren Simons USTA Serves

Lauren Simons recently found another reason to love tennis, becoming the recipient of an USTA Serves College Scholarship.  For the past several years, Lauren has been a dedicated player on both her high school team, The Lady Wolverines, and her local USTA Program, St George Junior Team Tennis.  Her dedication to the game has proven to be beneficial for her upcoming college career, as Lauren will receive $2,000 per year for each of her four years in an undergraduate program.

However, it wasn’t just her athletic ability that gained her this award.  The USTA Serves scholarship is for college bound students who are not only active players, but who also show great academic achievement and good community involvement.  Lauren is certainly a model example of this!  Among her academic accolades are Valedictorian for Woodland High School Class of 2013, National Honor Society Alumnus, and a Palmetto Fellows recipient.

Apart from tennis, Lauren also enjoys equestrian sports.  In April, she came home a winner of the Marsh Tacky Beach Races in Daufuskie Island, SC.  Lauren resides in St George and is the daughter of Pete Simons and the late Susie Southerland Simons.  Lauren’s younger sister, Megan, is also a tennis player for her school and the St George Junior Team.

We wish Lauren all the best as she ventures into a new chapter of her life, beginning college later this year at the University of South Carolina.  She stands as an example to all of our young players that the game of tennis has many rewards, both on and off the court!
