SC Coaches Receive Training from Southern

Four South Carolina coaches attended the Southern Coaches Symposium at the Racquet Club of the South in Atlanta the weekend of January 7-8.   USTA South Carolina Player Development Chairman Brian Parkkonen and USTA South Carolina Junior Competition Coordinator Jessica Amick chose three teaching pros who were among the top junior trainers in South Carolina.

Hunter Strasburger, Director of Tennis at Spring Valley Country Club, Gary Agardy, Director of Tennis at Greenwood Country Club, Nicola Slater, Director of Junior Programming at Florence Tennis Complex, and Brian Parkkonen, Director of Tennis at Florence Tennis Complex, attended numerous sessions over the weekend including meetings on Early Development, Common Flaws, and Making the Corrections.  These sessions served to enhance these coaches’ already formidable understanding of junior tennis training, which they can now pass on to other high performance coaches in South Carolina.

In addition to the prestige of having the coaches attend the event, their presence at the workshops allows USTA South Carolina to apply for Southern funding for 10 & Under Camps which are a vital tool in developing the next generation of tennis stars.
