St. George Tennis Building Unveiled

On Sunday, May 20th St. George Youth Sports League hosted the grand opening of the St. George Tennis Center. In phase one, the dilapidated original building was renovated and added onto in order to provide updated restrooms, storage and create new office and general meeting space. Phase two will begin in early June with the addition of a 78’ court and four 36’ dedicated tennis courts.
A great example of what dedicated volunteers and purposeful advocacy can achieve, the event was a celebration of hard work and commitment.  Notable attendees included State Representative Patsy Knight, Senator John Matthews and Mayor Anne Johnston, in addition to county council members and school district representatives.
In a surprise announcement the new building was formally unveiled as the "The Barbara and Grady Jones Tennis Building". This was in recognition of their resolute commitment to youth, tennis and the Town of St. George. In a colorful collaboration with local artists, one side of the new building was painted with a mural.
Sunday’s Grand Opening also included an art exhibition and silent auction to raise funds. The St. George Youth Sports League continues to seek funds with their "pathway of progress" project where individuals or organizations may purchase a brick to be etched and placed on their walkway.
